• How
do I install it?
Depends on the application and the plugin set. Many of the
professional sets have elaborate installations that check your disk
for earlier copies of the plugin, host application support, etc
and also ask for serials/passwords and then proceed to load all
the plugins, documentation, and support material with a minimum
of questions. Others ask a range of questions and require
the location of the plugins folder and others require nothing and
guess, and others require the plugins to be dragged manually to
the plugins path. Installation also depends on how many applications
you have, you might want to install the plugins for use with Photoshop
and paint Shop pro and others and have a complex folder setup for
plugin use. The result needs to be the same, the plugins need
to be held in a location for Photoshop or the host application to
load on startup. Most applications have a plugins folder.
If the plugins are installed in that folder and they are the correct
format and correct version for the application, the application
should load the plugins and you will find them generally in the
plugins menu (though if the plugins are selection or automation
or file format plugins, they will be located in another menu, but
assuming special effects, you should find the plugins in the plugins/filters
menu.
To de-install or un-install the plugins, worst case scenario would
be to just drag the plugins (on a PC these are *.8BF) files out
of the plugin path but many of the installed plugin sets come with
a de-install feature as well and you will find this in the add/remove
or via a shortcut. There are other ways to remove the plugin
such as using a plugin commander or manager tool.
In all cases, please consult the documentation that comes with your
product, run a virus checker, do a backup etc.
